Fall 2017 Preschool Storytime: Week Five October 3, 2017

During this storytime I shared two rhymes that both of my daughters learned at preschool that I thought the families would love.  I also shared my pure unadulterated excitement over the new Laurie Berker CD, The Dance Remixes.  It's AWESOME!!!  Of course I had to play the dance mix of "We Are the Dinosaurs" because October is National Dinosaur Month!

Here are the rhymes:

Down, down, yellow and brown,
the leaves are falling all around town.
Down, down, orange and red,
the leaves are falling on my head.

This is sung to the tune of "London Bridge."

In October, falling leaves,
pumpkin pie, Halloween,
bats and cats and witches hats,
in October!

This week's math skill is tangrams which is a fancy way of saying shape pictures.  In our book we talked about how shapes are all around us and talked about how many shapes can come together to make different things.  We played a fun game with the song "Shapes" by Greg & Steve.  Everyone picked two shapes from the basket and had to follow the directions for what to do (i.e. circle stand up, triangle sit down.)  I also printed different Tetris shapes, laminated them, and turned them into magnets to make a fun puzzle game that we played after storytime.
