Picture Book Spotlight: The World Needs More Purple People by Kristen Bell & Benjamin Hart

 Be proud.  Be PURPLE!

I shared this picture book with my daughter's 3rd grade class recently.  Her teacher told me that the theme for this year at school is happiness.  She also said that they were talking about individual talents and things that make them unique.  This book seemed to fit nicely.  Good thing because I had a stack of about 20 books that I wanted to share and was having one heck of a time narrowing it down to one!  The dedication states, "This book is dedicated to all PURPLE people.  Whatever shade, we're glad you're here."  Not only do you immediately feel welcome, but you really want to know what purple people are.  Well the authors Kristen Bell (she's Anna from Frozen!) and Benjamin Hart let us know that they will fill us in on the secret.  Illustrations by Daniel Wiseman depict the five steps we need to follow.  Purple is a magical color that is made when red and blue work together.  So what does that have to do with people?  If you're thinking the same thing, you have completed the first step!  Purple people ask great questions to find out about everything they can.  There are four more steps that need to be completed in order to unlock the secret of what it means to be a purple person.  You just might discover that you have been purple all along!  Purple people are happy.  Purple people are talented.  Purple people are unique!  Are you a purple person?  Read this book and find out!  The illustrations are fun and colorful.  It's just an all around happy book with a message of how mixing different colors together results in something magic and beautiful.
