Looking at my calendar this morning I realized that it has been almost a year to the day that I attended Family Place Libraries training in Centereach, NY. In fact, I got an email reminder about a conference call that I need to attend next week! This training was absolutely wonderful and has made a huge influence on not only my programming, but also how I run my department.
To sum it up in a sentence or two, Family Place Library locations place a strong emphasis on early childhood programming and education of parents and caregivers. The biggest feature of any Family Place Library is the parent/child workshop, an awesome 5 week series where kids can play and parents can interact with a variety of professionals from community organizations to talk about things from nutrition and child development to music and play.
On their website they have a link to library locations around the country, so check it out to see if there is one near you! Their website also features valuable information and resources, and they also maintain a strong and active presence on social media. Their Pinterest page is a gold mine of fun activities!
Since it literally popped up on my screen, I wanted to share some info. Enjoy!
