Summer 2018 Music & Movement Storytime: Week Seven 7/25/18

Last Music & Movement storytime of Summer 2018.  Wow.  To celebrate an awesome session and to make it super fun before our month long break, I added a few extras.  For example, our boat ride today was a bubble boat ride.  I tell you, I bring out my bubble maker, and they go WILD!  Bubbles are awesome though, so I can't really blame them. :)  We also turned parachute time into parachute royale where we bounced some fuzzy friends from our puppet closet.  T-Rex, Cheetah, Monkey, Moose, and Bear all had a turn to jump with the kiddos!  As I was folding up the parachute after our last program, I had the thought that the parachute is the fitted sheet of the storytime world.  Both are so darn tricky to fold the right way!

Summer 2018 Music & Movement Storytime: Weeks Five & Six 7/11/18 & 7/18/18

The kiddos have really been enjoying the poems from Grumbles From the Town:  Mother Goose Rhymes with a Twist that I have been sharing this session.  Together we chant the original rhyme, and then I read the twist version.  I'm thinking I might have to include some more fractured fairy tales in storytime because they really seem to like them.  Hmmm....just had an idea.  I should have a program where the older kids write fractured fairy tales for our storytimes!  Stay tuned to see where that little nugget goes!

Summer 2018 Preschool Storytimes: Weeks Six and Seven 7/10/18 & 7/17/18

Weeks six and seven introduced families to Jane Yolen and Bob Shea.  Many people know Jane Yolen's How Does a Dinosaur... books, but I highlighted ones that aren't as well known.  In week seven, we enjoyed the magic that is Bob Shea.  Oddly enough he's also best known for dinosaur books like Dinosaur vs. the Potty and Dinosaur vs. the Library.  Wow, didn't really plan that!  He also has some other great books that we read, including Big Plans, a personal favorite.

Get Moving Get Grooving School-Age 7/2/18

Yesterday I held the school-age version of my Get Moving Get Grooving program.  Oh man, did we have a blast!  I'm thinking this might just have to become a regular program, maybe once a month.  The kids and I talked about the value of keeping our bodies just as strong and healthy as we keep our brains by reading.  All of our activities involved materials that they could request from the library and and videos that they could find on YouTube on the GoNoodle channel.  Apparently GoNoodle is a big thing in schools.  I found out about it myself from kids who visit the library as well as my own daughter.  They would use these videos in gym class or during indoor recess.  They are fun, silly, and even educational.  I had 22 kids and several of the adults stayed for the program as well.  It was a very energetic group, a great dynamic.  They had a lot of fun teaching me dance moves and were very proud when I mastered flossing!
